Flights & Getting to Bhutan

By air

Paro International Airport (PBH) is Bhutan’s only international airport. Two airlines fly there:

  • Drukair (Royal Bhutan Airlines)
  • Bhutan Airlines

Common connections include Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Kathmandu, Bangkok, Singapore and Dhaka. The landing into Paro, between mountain ridges, is one of the most scenic in the world — sit on the left side flying in from Kathmandu for Everest views.

Overland

Travellers can enter from India at Phuentsholing (from Jaigaon, West Bengal), Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar. Phuentsholing to Thimphu is about a 5-hour drive.

Getting around

There are no trains in Bhutan. Tourists travel by private vehicle with a driver and guide. Domestic flights connect Paro with Bumthang and Yongphulla in the east.
