Colors and Festivals of Bhutan

Tshechus are Bhutan’s great religious festivals, held in dzong courtyards across the country to honour Guru Rinpoche. Monks and laymen perform sacred masked dances (cham) while whole communities gather in their finest clothes.

The most famous — Paro, Thimphu and Punakha — draw crowds from every valley, and at dawn on the final day of many festivals a giant thongdrel (thangka) is unrolled, said to bring liberation to all who see it.
