Bhutan’s climate varies with altitude — from subtropical southern plains to alpine peaks above 7,000 m.
Spring (March–May)
Mild days, rhododendrons in bloom and the Paro Tshechu. One of the best times to visit.
Summer (June–August)
Monsoon season: green valleys, afternoon rain and some road delays. Fewer visitors and good hotel availability.
Autumn (September–November)
Clear skies, crisp air and the best mountain views. Peak season for trekking and festivals, including the Thimphu Tshechu.
Winter (December–February)
Cold nights but sunny, dry days and clear Himalayan views. Black-necked cranes winter in the Phobjikha valley from November to February.
